Answers for Singapore SME owners
Everything owners ask us about the EDG, the 3S model, working with a consultant, and getting started — answered plainly.
Enterprise Development Grant (EDG)
What is the Enterprise Development Grant (EDG)?
The EDG is a grant from EnterpriseSG that helps Singapore companies fund projects to upgrade their core capabilities, innovate, or grow into new markets. Engaging a management consultant to build and implement a business strategy is one of the projects it can support. For eligible SMEs it can cover up to 50% of qualifying costs, assessed by EnterpriseSG per application.
How much of the cost can the EDG fund?
Up to 50% of qualifying project costs for SMEs. The exact support depends on the project scope and company profile, and is confirmed by EnterpriseSG on each application.
Am I eligible for EDG-supported consulting?
Typical eligibility is a business registered and operating in Singapore, with at least 30% local shareholding, more than 10 employees, and annual revenue above S$1 million. EnterpriseSG confirms eligibility at the application stage, and Advanced Consultancy assesses your specific position during the free business diagnosis.
Do you handle the EDG application for me?
Yes, end to end. Advanced Consultancy scopes the project, prepares and documents the application, and submits it to EnterpriseSG. Across the applications submitted for SME clients, virtually all have been approved.
What is the difference between the EDG and the PSG?
The EDG co-funds consulting-led projects that build capability, strategy and market access. The PSG helps SMEs adopt pre-approved off-the-shelf productivity tools and equipment. Both support up to 50%, but the EDG is for strategy and capability while the PSG is for buying a specific tool.
How long does the EDG application take?
It varies with the project and EnterpriseSG assessment. The application follows the scoping of a proper project, so most of the timeline is shaping the engagement well; the free diagnosis is the first step.
The 3S model and engagements
What is the 3S model?
The 3S model is how Advanced Consultancy structures every engagement: Survivability (stabilise cash flow, margins and operations), Sustainability (build a profitable, repeatable model across strategy, people and process) and Scalability (grow into new capacity and markets). The stages are worked in order so growth is built on solid foundations.
Which stage of the 3S model is my business in?
That is what the free business diagnosis determines. Some businesses need stabilising first, others are ready to scale. You start at the right stage rather than a one-size plan.
Do I have to go through all three stages?
No. The engagement starts where your business is. A stable, profitable business might move straight into Scalability, while one under pressure starts with Survivability. You only do the stages you need.
How long does an engagement take?
It depends on where the business sits in the 3S model and the scope of work. Every engagement starts with a free diagnosis, then a roadmap, implementation alongside your team, and two years of post-project support so the results hold.
Working with a consultant
How much does business consulting cost in Singapore?
It varies by scope. What matters more is the net cost: much SME consulting can be part-funded by the EnterpriseSG EDG, up to 50% for eligible companies. The free diagnosis clarifies scope before any commitment, so there are no surprises.
What should I look for in a business consultant?
Look for outcomes rather than reports, a consultant who diagnoses before prescribing, relevant experience with SMEs like yours, a clear method, real credentials, an understanding of grant funding, and support that continues after the project.
Who are your consultants?
Advanced Consultancy is a boutique firm certified as a Singapore Quality Class company by EnterpriseSG, and an EnterpriseSG-recognised management consultancy. Its consultants hold professional certifications including Certified Management Consultant (SCMC) and Registered Management Consultant (RMC, certified by TÜV SÜD).
What support do you provide after a project?
Advanced Consultancy stays with clients for two years after the project, so the changes hold and the business keeps improving rather than sliding back once the engagement ends.
Getting started
Is the initial business diagnosis really free?
Yes. The initial business diagnosis is offered at no cost and no obligation. It is how we understand your business and whether we can genuinely help, before anything is scoped or committed.
What happens in a business diagnosis?
It is a structured conversation about your cash flow, margins, operations and priorities, and where the business sits on the 3S model. You come away with an honest view of the key priorities and whether there is a fit, including potential EDG funding.
How do I get started?
The simplest first step is to reach out for a free business diagnosis by WhatsApp or phone. There is no cost and no obligation, and you will leave with a clearer view of your business either way.
Start with a free business diagnosis.
Tell us where your business stands and we'll pinpoint the priorities — and whether EnterpriseSG's EDG can help fund the work.
